Our mission is to make neurodiversity visible, understandable, and valued. We aim to help ensure that children and young people – especially in the context of scouting – are understood, accepted, and strengthened in their individuality. Neurodiversity is a natural part of human diversity, and we see it as our responsibility to share knowledge about it and to create spaces in which all young people feel safe, respected, and that they belong.
A central part of our work is education and awareness. Through information, exchange, and practical support, we aim to help reduce uncertainty and promote a better understanding of different ways of thinking, perceiving, and behaving. In this way, misunderstandings, prejudices, and stereotypes can be reduced, and a respectful, inclusive approach to one another can be strengthened.
Furthermore, we are committed to increasing awareness of neurodiversity not only within the scouting movement, but also throughout society as a whole. Our goal is a community in which differences are not seen as obstacles, but as enrichment – and in which every child and every young person has the opportunity to develop freely, participate, and belong.
In the long term, our goal is to establish a scholarship program to complement our educational and awareness work, specifically supporting neurodiverse children and young people within the scouting community, as well as those who wish to become part of it. To achieve this, we collect donations and funding to provide financial support for a wide range of opportunities. This includes enabling participation in scouting programs, supporting travel and international experiences within scouting that might otherwise not be possible, and fostering the educational and personal development of neurodiverse young people — including beyond the direct scouting context. Scholarships may also be used for other comparable purposes that support personal growth and meaningful participation.
To ensure fair and balanced support across the diverse scouting landscape, the funds provided through the scholarship program are distributed according to a transparent and equitable allocation model. 40% of the funds are made available to members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), and another 40% to members of the World Federation of Independent Scouts (WFIS). An additional 20% of the funds are specifically allocated to neurodiverse children and young people from independent scouting groups that are not affiliated with an international umbrella organization. This distribution ensures that no group is disadvantaged and that support is provided fairly and proportionally across different organizational structures. Scholarship recipients are selected based on transparent and objective criteria in accordance with this 40–40–20 principle.
The scholarships are intentionally flexible in their use, but are intended either to support participation within the scouting context or to enable opportunities outside of scouting for individuals who are actively engaged in the scouting community or seeking to become part of it. This may include, for example, funding participation in regular scout meetings, camps, or international events, as well as enabling educational opportunities, travel, or personal development activities outside of scouting that would otherwise not be accessible due to financial limitations. The goal is to provide neurodiverse young people with the resources they need to develop their potential, gain new experiences, and pursue their individual paths with confidence and autonomy.
As an organization, we are committed to acting in good faith and to directing as much of the donations and funding entrusted to us as possible into this scholarship program. Our educational, training, and awareness activities are, whenever possible, carried out on a voluntary basis or at cost. At the same time, we strive to keep our administrative expenses as low and transparent as possible, ensuring that the maximum possible share of available funds directly benefits the young people we aim to support.
